AI Potential
Here's another enoyable tech commission for Wall Street Journal on the wait for AI to reach its full potential. I worked up a few concepts with Cinema 4d/Photoshop for this, including a fun but ultimately too slow cyber-snail. The final illustration featured my 3d robot weighing up the potential speed of AI assimilation covering the faster booster and the slower sceptic beliefs. Thanks again to Siung Tjia for taking another chance on me. You can see this on the main site here also.

Future Of Racing
Here's another welcome commission for Wall Street Journal on the news that Apple is entering into a deal with F1 for American streaming rights. The process began with adapting a 3d F1 car model in Cinema 4d/Redshift and expermenting with Apple-style surfaces, lighting and framing to produce the initial visuals, two of which are presented here. The more dynamic head-on composition was chosen with a darker palette and more emphasis on the cameras/screens. Really pleased with this one. Many thanks to Siung Tjia for the commission again. See it on the main site here also.

Tech Predictions
Here's a nice commission for Wall Street Journal, that's right up my tech/sci-fi street, illustrating an article on Five Amazing Tech Innovations We Should Expect in the Next 25 Years. The innovations included mind-controlled tech, space mining, private weather systems, abundant nuclear fusion energy and, of course, robots at home. The illustration combines 3d modelled elements with 2d design, photography and textures and featured in print and online. Thanks to Siung Tjia for the commission. See it on the main site here also.

WIA2025 Longlist
Very happy to be a longlisted artist in this year's World Illustration Awards. My 'AI weather prediction' illustrations and animation for Wall Street Journal's The Future Of Everything were selected in the Science and Technology category. Really enjoyed this one, a great blend of all my interests and 2d/3d skills, and particularly pleased with how it works within the lovely design of the tall format print cover. Thanks to Caitlin Choi for the commission and wonderful art direction. See the entry on the WIA2025 site here.

The Future Of Everything
Here's a commission I greatly enjoyed for the Wall Street Journal and their The Future Of Everything supplement on the theme of AI weather prediction. The brief was to create an illustration and animation representing data in the form of a weather front of some sort so I went to work on a few initial visuals. With the animation requirement in mind I experimented with some MoGraph techniques in Cinema 4d to simulate cyclones and rainfall then took some frames to help create the works-in-progress seen above. A direction was chosen for the cover illustration with notes to push back the cyclone in favour of a digital rain effect and give the clouds more depth. For the final I had fun adding intricate digital detail and designing the image for an unusual vertical cover format. The animation was needed for the online edition so I created a short loop from a 3d camera move into the clouds and digital rainfall. You can see that on the WSJ site here. I was also asked to provide a further editorial illustration with a similar theme and developed an AI weather vane rooster concept. Thanks to Caitlin Choi for a really satisfying commission overall. Head Games
I'm playing catch-up on the blog after a busy old month of work and travel. Here's a recent cover illustration for Wall Street Journal's Review section for an article entitled 'Head Games: The Mental Tricks Of Athletic Endurance'. Unlike this delayed post the illustration was created in time for the, then, upcoming Winter Olympics. I created an alternative dark version that was used on the website. You can see it on the site with previous Wall Street Journal work here.

Ancient DNA
Here's a recent editorial for the Wall Street Journal on how studies in ancient DNA are telling a new human story about our ancestors. See more work for the Wall Street Journal here.
