Raw Power Festival 2020

It's fast approaching music festival season and I'm happy to report I was asked again to create all the promotional materials for the upcoming Raw Power 2020 by organiser Baba Yaga's Hut.

Building on last year's sci-fi/psych designs I further developed the logo with textures reminiscent of amp speakers and created ominous rocket structures fashioned from jack plugs. Over a period of around 6 months the festival line up came together requiring early bird, first and final announcement poster designs while I tinkered away on an animated promo in the background. This focuses on the launch sequence of one of the jack towers as it hurtles towards a sonic-hole (if you like) as the festival line up appears across the action. This was all modelled in 3d and composited in After Effects with the mind-crunching soundtrack provided by headliner Chrome Hoof.

Instant Inspiration

October has managed to fly by without a single blogpost so I'll try and make up for it before 2019 is finito. First up is a little bit of press promo. QEOP Spotting

The advertising for the opening of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has been all over London town this month which has been a treat to see. Here are a couple of bus and tube examples. Thanks to Annie for the tube snap.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

I was recently commissioned by the good folks at Premm Design again, whom I worked with on three years of successful BBC Proms illustrations, to create an illustration for the opening of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford this coming Saturday April 5th. To get a feel for the park I donned a hard hat for a site visit during construction and took a load of research snaps before tackling the brief. The illustration had to convey a sense of the iconic architecture, public spaces, waterways and array of activities available in a simple and effective way all rendered in the eye-catching brand colours. The image had to work for various for print formats, landscape and portrait, and I also animated the illustration for some short moving ads that can be seen at Westfield and on those tubes of London. You can also see more on the site here. Now I just need to go and have a little lie down in it.

100th Grey Cup Festival

I'm back at the wheel after some downtime with a backload of work to plonk on the blog. Firstly, here's a job for the folks at Bensimon Byrne to promote Canada's 100th Grey Cup Festival 2012 in Toronto. It's a big cultural sporting event based around American football happening in November. I had to produce a panoramic illustration that could work across various media and as five different banner compositions to hang around Toronto. Touchdown...as they say.

Memories Out Now

The Memories book project in aid of Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres has been published and is on sale over at their site, with all proceeds going to Maggie's. I contributed this illustration based on the tale of cancer survivor, Wendy Nichols, a while back. It's a real pleasure to see it so lavishly reproduced in a book that's bursting with lovely work from a great roster of artists and for such a good cause. Well worth picking up a copy.

Down The Albert

Popped over to the Albert Hall this week to get some cheeky snaps of the Proms illustration in full swing before the festy ends next month. Lovely evening for it.

As Seen On TV

It's Promsmania at the moment as the big Beeb music festival kicks off for three months. Spotted this well-made ad on the tellybox featuring my illustration being painted on a massive billboard in a park with crowds of people walking blindly into it. Can't say I had anything to do with the making of the ad but it's sure nice to be a part of it.

Notes From The Bunker

Well, July has been razed by a time consuming hurricane of extreme work and play so the blog has suffered somewhat but I'll be posting with a vengeance over the next week or so to remedy the situation. First up is a big thank you to Francesco and the Italian design aces at Bunker who I worked with on the Carraro Annual Report and kindly sent me a lovely package of notebooks made up from a couple of my personal illustrations, Pier and Cuba.

You BETT

More exhibition based work for the Futurelab crew and their stand at the BETT 2010 education and technology event in Earls Court, London. The exhibition, which also featured the Spark illustrations I recently finished for them, needed an overall banner design to tie everything together under the header 'Bringing Learning To Life'. A photo shoot of local school kids in Bristol was arranged by Futurelab and lovingly shot by Tom Bunning for the final illustration.

Spark me up

Here's one of the bigger projects I've been working on recently for the good folk of Futurelab in Bristol. Multiple illustrations to cover various pieces of a mobile exhibition called Spark: Igniting Innovation In Education. It's to showcase new technologies that support innovative practice in education. Should keep em' off the streeets at the very least.

Proms Me Badd!

It was a barmy old evening yesterday so I took off on my bike around London and snapped the Albert Hall en route while it's still coated in the Proms illustration work. Also spotted it on a bus in Trafalgar Square the other day which I narrowly avoided smashing into the side of...mmmmm
