The Pentagon And The Big Eight

Here's another recent commission for Al Majalla on the Pentagon's special relationship with Silicon Valley and how AI is getting into secret military networks via ties with the big eight tech companies. For this one I combined Cinema 4d 3d modelled elements with 2d digital collage in Photoshop to represent the layers of AI tech at the core of Pentagon operations. I've included here an alternative work-in-progress with a more abstract overhead view. Thanks to Sara Loane again for an enjoyable commission. More Al Majalla work here.

Saudi Entertainment

Here's a recent commission for Al Majalla on the current state of Saudi  Arabian entertainment and the expansion of country's culture and the arts. A large part of the article looked at the film and television industry so I focussed on that for the main illustration, particularly the burgeoning cinema and film festival scene. 3x3 Merit Haul

Over the moon to hear that three of my entries gained a Merit in this year's 3x3 Illustration Show No.22 and will be published in the Annual and appear in the online gallery. My illustration for Al Majalla Stellar Competition with art director Sara Loane scored in the Editorial category. Merit two for my AI Weather Prediction piece with Caitlin Choi for Wall Street Journal's Future of Everything in the Newspaper Cover category. Finally, a merit for my illustrations in D. Zollicoffer's Game On Zhuri Book 2 published by Reycraft Books in the Children's Illustration (Published) category. Phew! 

World Cup 2034

Here's a commission for the Al Majalla print and online edition for a feature on Saudi Arabia hosting the 2034 World Cup. The brief was a great excuse to work on a fun double page spread digital collage of football and Saudi themed visuals along with a couple of smaller spots. Stellar Competition

Here's a commission for Al Majalla on the international race to conquer space and whether it could become the next major conflict zone. I love a cosmic illustration so really enjoyed modelling the various rockets in Cinema 4d and experimenting with dynamic camera angles and compositions. For the spot illustrations I designed a key-shaped space station, opening the door to militaristic opportunities, and an unusual shaped composition looking at the importance of satellite control in the potential war zone. Digitally Bank Like An Egyptian

Here's an online editorial illustration I worked on last year and got a little lost in the sands of time. It was on the theme of the state of digital banking in Egypt for the Al Majalla website. I was always obssessed with ancient Egyptian imagery as a child and I do enjoy a good tech commission so this one hit the spot. See more Al Majalla work on the site here.

The AI Eagle Of Egypt

Here's a new animated editorial commission for Al Majalla on the current state of AI in Egypt.  I chose to use the eagle crest from the country's flag to symbolise the rise of AI and how it has been embraced by Egyptian youth. For the animation I modelled the eagle, rotating screens and brain in Cinema 4d and composited those with all the other elements in After Effects, adding music and sound effects to finish. Big Deal

Here's an interesting cover commission for Al Majalla magazine that came to me almost ready made. The art director Sara Loane had a lovely Biden illustration created by Mona Eing and Michael Meissner pushing a 2d 'Deal' font on an orange background. I was asked to replace everything but Biden with some foreboding 3d typography and a subtle desert background. This would be used on the print cover and also required animating for social media posts. I'd created the font and rubble in Cinema 4d with animating in mind and composited the 3d camera moves and elements with the 2d Biden and background in After Effects before adding sound effects and music. Turkish Tightrope

Here's a commission for Al Majalla magazine on the theme of President Erdoğan balancing Turkish affairs after his recent reelection. One of the concepts briefed was to depict Erdoğan on a tightrope so for one of the initial roughs I created a high wire scene over a 3d constructed Blue Mosque. The idea and dynamic composition went down well so I moved forward with that direction and switched out the mosque for the Turkish Presidential complex, Ak Saray, that I also modelled in Cinema 4d. The background was completed with Turkish city elements and a magic hour light. An enjoyable commission.
