Autonomous World

Here's another fun tech/sci-fi illustration for longtime client Professional Engineering on the theme of an Autonomous World and what to expect from engineers building an unmanned future.  The brief required depicting a hi-tech Earth resembling a 'Death Star' with robots and self-driving flying vehicles. I turned to Cinema 4D/Redshift to model and light my own robot, vehicles and hi-tech Earth enabling me to work up various compositions reasonably quickly. The 3d robot also came in handy for a concurrent commission on a similar theme, see previous post. The final illustration was created from combining elements from two works-in-progress included here and designed to work with the cover layout. Thanks to Jes Stanfield for the commission. See the work on the main site here along with previous covers on the blog here.

AI & Engineering

More AI-themed commissions for the blog this week starting with a cover illustration for Professional Engineering on whether AI is an existential threat or engineering opportunity. Something in between no doubt. The brief was to typographically represent AI and I used Cinema 4d to model the technical looking structure around some 3d type before rendering it from a slightly ominous angle. To finish I comped the type with the 3d screens, texture and environment in Photoshop. See more work for Professional Engineering here.

Forward Thinkers

Here's some new editorial work for Professional Engineering magazine for a feature on Forward Thinkers. The brief was to create a cover and a number of spot illustrations showing the future and past of a particular field of engineering including aerospace, rail and energy. For the cover I modelled the zero emission concept aeroplane in Cinema 4d  then worked with collaged elements throughout the five images. A fun one. You can see a previous commission for Professional Engineering here.

Future Skills

Here's a recent cover illustration for Professional Engineering on the Future Skills that will be required of engineers to tackle tomorrow's challenges. Had fun creating this composition around the central type for the cover and making it work on a white background for the feature. Love a tech collage, me!
