Ready For Kickoff

Here's a fun cover commission for Atlanta Magazine's preview of the upcoming World Cup 2026 this month. For this one Art Director Craig Edwards came to me with the idea for the football pitch with cover headlines painted onto CGI grass and I had to figure out a way to do it, the ball was in my court as they never say in soccer. I took to Cinema 4d/Redshift and various tutorials to create the CGI grass and then project the pitch lines and typography onto the texture. It took a lot of refining and fiddling about with grass length to get the right look for the cover. I've included a closeup and an alternate angle on the pitch to show the level of detail that could be achieved. Overall, a really enjoyable creative and technical challenge this one so many thanks to Craig for the commission. See it on the main site here.

Future Of Racing

Here's another welcome commission for Wall Street Journal on the news that Apple is entering into a deal with F1 for American streaming rights. The process began with adapting a 3d F1 car model in Cinema 4d/Redshift and expermenting with Apple-style surfaces, lighting and framing to produce the initial visuals, two of which are presented here. The more dynamic head-on composition was chosen with a darker palette and more emphasis on the cameras/screens. Really pleased with this one. Many thanks to Siung Tjia for the commission again. See it on the main site here also.

World Cup 2034

Here's a commission for the Al Majalla print and online edition for a feature on Saudi Arabia hosting the 2034 World Cup. The brief was a great excuse to work on a fun double page spread digital collage of football and Saudi themed visuals along with a couple of smaller spots. Thanks to Sara Loane for the enjoyable commission. You can see further work for Al Majalla on the site here.

Rise Of The Machines

Happy New Year to all! To kick-off 2023 here's a double page editorial for Populous Magazine that I worked on during the recent World Cup. The feature looks at the state of the art officiating technology being employed there, and across the sporting world, and whether it will ultimately supersede human decision making. Was great fun collaging together all the sporting imagery and tech and you can see similar work on the site here.

This Sporting Life

Here's a new series of editorial illustrations for Colgate University Magazine in upstate New York, USA. They're for a feature on some of Colgate's successful alumni athletes and what they have done with their careers. The main illustration needed to be a general collage showing the sports included while the other two images feature the specific people in the article. An enjoyable one to do. See it on the main site here.
