Very pleased to get the news update that my longlisted WIA2025 entry made it to the shortlist! 

WIA2025 Longlist

 Very happy to be a longlisted artist in this year's World Illustration Awards. My 'AI weather prediction' illustrations and animation for Wall Street Journal's The Future Of Everything were selected in the Science and Technology category. Really enjoyed this one, a great blend of all my interests and 2d/3d skills, and particularly pleased with how it works within the lovely design of the tall format print cover. WIA23 Longlister

Super pleased to be longlisted for the AOI's World Illustration Awards in the Science & Technology Professional Category. My Great Moon Rush animated cover illustration for BBC Science Focus was selected amongst some fantastic work this year. To the moon! Absolute lunar-cy, etc. See the work here.

 

WIA2020 And AI39 News

Really pleased to get some of my work recognised this awards season, the good news came as a lovely lockdown pick-me-up. Firstly, my Hadassah magazine cover for the #Metoo and the Jewish World issue was long listed in the World Illustration Awards. Secondly, my Jason advisory group illustration for Science and Space 2069 cover for BBC Science Focus were chosen winners in American Illustration 39 and will appear amongst the online archive.

Poster Prize For Illustration 2019

Happy New Year to all! Just about kick-started my brain into gear for January so I'll open the 2019 blog chapter with some good news. Very pleased to have been accepted into this year's AOI Poster Prize for Illustration exhibition at the London Transport Museum opening on 8th February. The theme is 'London Stories' and, after racking my brains for an existing narrative to illustrate, I decided to go with one of my own personal experiences. This illustration, entitled 11/10/08, is a celebration of my wedding day on the London Eye to the woman I love in the city I love. Simples. Sounds Of The City

Chuffed to announce my entry for this year's AOI Prize for Illustration competition was selected amongst the top 100 to be exhibited this week at the London Transport Museum. The theme was Sounds Of The City and I went with a collage of a busy central London night scene filled with cacophonous bright hot noise shapes. The exhibition looks to be a good one and is open to the public from this Friday May 19th until 3rd September.

WIA 2017 Shortlist

I'm happy as a plate of punch pie to be shortlisted for this year's World Illustration Awards 2017 through the AOI. I'm in the Advertising category for this poster illustration to promote Second Hand Sundays regular DJ slot 'Adventures in a Land of Ever-changing Wax Grooves' at south London's The Ivy House last year. Looking forward to the exhibition at Somerset House in August where the award winners will be announced. Prints are available from the shop here.

AOI Awards Shortlist 2014

Very pleased to say that my animation Claude Debussy's Life In Miniature has been shortlisted for this year's AOI Illustration Awards in the Design category. The Awards show will be held at Somerset House, London later in the year.

I Didn't Mean To Call You A Meatloaf Jack!

This year's Serco Prize for Illustration had the largely open theme of London stories from any source, fiction or non-fiction. I had to go with my gut and choose a classic London set film and personal, childhood-traumatising favourite, An American Werewolf In London (1981). It also happens to feature a couple of gory set-pieces based around London Transport so that seemed to fit the bill. Appropriately enough, in the same week I designed the poster we had a special studio double-bill screening of An American Werewolf In London and They Live! projected on a photographic studio infinity wall to eerie effect (photo: Alex Dobbin). Tingle On: Images 36 and 3 x 3 Proshow

The Tingler poster was selected to exhibit in this year's AOI Images 36 show at Somerset House and will continue on the exhibition tour around the UK. It also appears in the accompanying Images 36 Best Of British Illustration 2012 book in the Self Promotion category along with my Urban Utopia (New Scientist) and Creative Outsider (Design Week) illustrations both in the Editorial category. The Tingler pops up again in this year's 3x3 Proshow, selected for the Poster category.

New River Walk

Here's my entry for this year's Serco Prize for Illustration 2012 which had the theme of Secret London.  I chose the New River Walk in Canonbury, a picturesque waterway that runs near our flat and is a little oasis of calm from the city streets. I often see a big old heron hanging out with the ducks when walking through so made it the centrepiece of the illustration with the London Transport imagery worked into the borders. The piece didn't make it into the exhibition this year unfortunately but them's the breaks.

Images 35

Bit of a delayed post this but what the hey? I popped along to the AOI Images 35 Exhibition a couple of weeks ago at Bankside Gallery London for this year's awards night. Had a top evening catching up with friends and colleauges and checked out some of the great work on show. My BBC Proms 2010 illustration was hanging in the Advertising category and goes on tour with the exhibition across the country. Also picked up the new Images 35 book and here's a spread with a few of my bits and pieces that passed muster with the judges.

On The Buses

I went along to the Serco Prize for Illustration 2011 awards on Monday at the London Transport Museum where my London Flow illustration is exhibiting amongst the 50 shortlisted entries. It was a great venue for the ceremony, surrounded by historical London buses of all shapes and sizes, and the exhibition featured some excellent work, particularly from the worthy winners. I didn't go home with anything on the night but it's great to be part of the exhibition and I certainly wasn't anywhere near as grumpy as this waxwork goon behind the wheel!

London Flow

Here's my entry for this year's Serco Prize for Illustration run by the AOI and London Transport Museum. The theme was the River and the brief was to depict the Thames as a central feature of London life and transport. The swirly composition was loosely based on wake patterns in the water and it was fun working iconic city elements into the shapes. So this week I was pleased as punch to hear I've been selected amongst the Top 50 entries for the exhibition on May 9th at the London Transport Museum where the winners will be announced. Splosh!

Images 34 Awards

It was the Association Of Illustrators Images 34 Award night last week and I was fortunate enough to pick up a Bronze award in the Design category for my Pyramid Breweries Audacious Apricot Ale illustration. Action Stations also picked up a Silver award in the New Media category for last year's Dallas Guild animated 'Burn' promo, a collaboration between myself and Mark Taplin. I'd like to thank ... (ohh shutuppp!)
